The South African Game - Sport and Racism

The issue of South African spot is raised as often today as it was in 1970 when the Stop The Seventy Tour placed it for the first time on the front pages of the international press. Recent rugby tours to and from South Africa, notably the British Lions' tour in 1980 and the New Zealand crisis in 1981, and the boycott list compiled by the South African Non-racial Olympic Committee for the United Nations Special Committee Against Apartheid which nearly capsized the 1981 MCC tour of the West Indies - have ensured that the international campaign to isolate South Africa from world spot remains as lively an issue as ever.
