Report on the Municipal Conference on Sport and Recreation

The Deputy Minister said the conference was the first of its kind to include all municipalities, and extended a special welcome to the Tshwane Municipality as the host. He said the Tshwane Municipality was an example of a vibrant city that included all sport and recreation options. The conference was informed that the positive role of Sport and Recreation contributes to Government priorities worldwide. Conversations in South Africa since 2009 have emphasised the positive impact of sport on development. In November 2011, a high level meeting culminated in the Transformation Charter to guide all sporting and recreation activities in the country with transformation as a central principle. The National Sport and Recreation Plan was also adopted at that gathering and provide the road map for sporting and recreational endeavour in contributing to the building of a winning nation. Ensuring broad and inclusive access to sport for all communities contributes to success on the international stage.
