The struggle for liberation and freedom in the Northern Cape 1850 - 1994

The book covers the history of the NC from the 1850s - 1994. These dates were not chosen randomly. In 1847 the new Governor at the Cape, Sir Harry Smith, extended the northern border of the Cape Colony to the southern bank of the Orange River which added another 115 000 square kilometers of land to the colony. This border extension meant that the northern parts of Namaqualand and Bushmanland were now also under the control of the Cape Colony.
