Deputy Minister - Speech - 4th Session of the UNESCO Conference of Parties - 19 September 2013

The report was circulated to all Member States, and I will refer to some of the key aspects that had required the focus of the 2011 Conference of Parties. Ms Irina Bokova, UNESCO Director-General had emphasized three areas that member states had to take action on. First, the importance for all States Parties to implement the Convention and achieve compliance with its legal obligation was highlighted. Secondly, it was mentioned that more could be done to formalize global anti-doping rules, practices, policies, and guidelines to ensure a more ethical and fair-play environment for athletes. Finally, it was deemed that more needed to be done with regards to education, with a key focus on youth, which is vital in the fight against doping in sport and providing young people with a better future.
