Panel discussions at International Fan Village

GTZ in collaboration with SRSA are organising several thought provoking sport and development related panel discussions during the World Cup.

The panel members are drawn from industry leaders, sportspeople and government  officials from both overseas and local organisations.

The topics of the discussions include Girl Empowerment through Football, a lively and interactive event in which several local female soccer players from all levels participated.

 

Next Deputy Minister Gert Oosthuizen participated in a panel discussion also attended by representatives from the German development agency GTZ as well as industry giant Barloworld on the topic of the Relevance of Sport for Business and Development. Much of the discussions were taken up by emphasizing the tremendous impact that the 2010 FIFA World Cup would have on long term investment not only in South Africa, but also on the rest of the continent.

 

On International Energy Day several stakeholders will take part in a panel discussion on renewable energy and investment in energy infrastructure.

 

After the Final – What is the Legacy of the World Cup for Africa is the topic of discussion on Monday 3 July at 2pm.

 

The venue for all the panels is the International Football Village at Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg.
