Special Recreation - Opportunities for persons with disabilities

The public parks and recreation profession has long prided itself on its ability to contribute to the well-being and quality of life of the citizenry. Yet, as problems of persons with disabilities have become increasingly more visible in society, it has become apparent that this profession has had only a tenuous grasp on the nature of the problems that citizens with disabilities must face during their leisure and their need for the provision of special recreation programs.
