Minister and President meet with Hayatou
The Minister of Sport and Recreation South Africa Mr. Fikile Mbalula acknowledges the statement issued by the Confederation of African Football ( CAF ) on the courtesy visit by its President, Mr. Issa Hayatou to His Excellency, Mr. Jacob Zuma.
Minister Mbalula confirms the cordial courtesy meeting did take place at the residence of the South African president in Pretoria. The meeting was also graced by the presence of the Minister, the South African Football Association (SAFA) president, Mr. Danny Jordaan and Mamelodi Sundowns president, Mr. Patrice Motsepe.
Having been appraised by the SAFA President of Mr Hayatou’s candidacy, President Zuma wished him well as he would have would have to other candidates. President Jacob Zuma expressed his gratitude for the visit and reiterated his support for the development of African football. Abiding by the principle of non-interference in the affairs of football democracy, President Jacob Zuma did not pledge his personal support or that of the South African government behind the name of Mr. Hayatou.
Minister Fikile Mbalula adds on the well wishes of President Jacob Zuma to Mr Hayatou and other candidates on leadership contestation of CAF.
