The History of Hockey

Heredotus attributed the invention of the all-important ball to the Lydians. Other historians suggest that a woman of distinction named Anagalla, a native of Corcyra, was the first who made a ball for the purpose of pastime, which she presented to nausicaa, the daughter of Alcinous, King of Phoeascia, and at the same time taught her ho to use it. this piece of Hisotry is partly derived from Homer ... Handball was presumably the first kind of ball game to be played by the Ancients, and the use of the hands would have come more naturally than the foot, or the club.
