Message from Minister of Sport and Recreation on Passing of Ncinane

It is with a heavy heart that we learnt of the passing on of sport activist, Comrade Zandisile  John 'Increase' Ncinane  this past Monday, 8 of January 2018.

Mr Ncinane was a famous sport activist and a seasoned administrator who participated in a number of sporting codes. Notably, together with other greats of sport, such as the late Mvuzo Mbebe, he was one of the delegates of the South African Amateur Athletics Congress to the Unity Talks.

Comrade Ncinane distinguished himself as one of the most committed and talented administrators serving in a number of sport structures in his birth place in the border region. He served as the President of Border Athletics, as well as President of Border Rugby. It was because of his dedication and passion that he was elected as the President of the Eastern Cape National Sport Council and later as the Co-President for Athletics South Africa with Judge van Zyl.

Our tribute to this great sportsperson will be to continue with the struggle of increasing access to sport for all our people, promote development at grass roots level and pick up the transformation pace.

To the Ncinane family and friends, nothing we say that can remove your pain and loss you experiencing however, I can emphasize that a life well-lived is never forgotten. In the words of German Communist poet, Bertolt Brecht, and I quote:

“Do not fear death so much, but rather fear the inadequate life.”

There was nothing inadequate about the life of sports activist, Zandisile John 'Increase' Ncinane.

May his soul rest in peace.
