Newly Appointed Minister of Sport and Recreation South Africa, Min T Xasa take this opportunity to wish Caster Semenya the best of luck as she prepares to break the 1000m South African record that has been standing for 35 years when she competes in the Liquid Telecom Athletics Grand Prix at Tuks Stadium tomorrow evening.

In wishing her luck, the Minister Xasa stated the following:

I am taking this opportunity and wish our golden girl Caster Semenya well ahead of her big day tomorrow as she embarks on this record breaking milestone. I have confidence in her as she has won races, broken records before and placed us on the world map. Her past achievements put her ahead of anyone else and I am confident that she will indeed achieve her objective.

I also take this opportunity to urge all South Africans to rally behind her tomorrow evening and grant her the necessary support she requires. Those who will be in attendance to see her as she makes history, must please do so orderly. We must always remember that sport plays a tremendous role in fostering social cohesion and national building hence we all must unite behind Caster and all our athletes who are currently taking part in the Liquid Telecom Athletics Grand Prix event.

I know we are competing against the Ugandan athletes and they intend to be party spoilers however, we have confidence in Caster and with home ground advantage and participating in front of all of us, I am confident she will make us proud. Indicated Minister T Xasa
