Protein

Protein consists of building blocks, called amino acids. These amino acids are necessary for developing new muscle tissue repairing damaged muscle tissue, and are also needed for the general maintenance of existing tissue. Protein can also be used as a source of energy if carbohydrate intake is insufficient, however compared to carbohydrate, it is not an efficient nor a cost-effective source of energy.
