SRSA and Parliament
Matters of sport and recreation in South Africa are covered in Parliament by the Portfolio Committee on Sport and Recreation. This committee is the link between Parliament and the public, and is among other the forum where members of the public can give input into the formulation of policy and legislation on sport. It is also the place where sport related legislation is formulated and discussed before being debated, and either approved or rejected by Parliament. (See this section for a full explanation of the work of parliamentary committees).
The Committee also has an oversight role regarding the department of sport and recreation, SRSA. SRSA does regular presentations to the Committee about items such as its Annual Report, budget, formulation of legislation and projects such as the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
SRSA also holds an annual parliamentary exhibition to inform parliamentarians about its work. This normally takes place during the presenting of the sport budget vote. (Budget votes are available in the Document Library, do a search on 'vote' in the title).
