Basketball National League (BNL)
SRSA is particularly proud of the success of the National Basketball League, which was started as a part of its plan to annually focus on the needs of a particular sport, as per the Annual Performance Plan (APP). Structurally this project it falls under the Winning Nation directorate in SRSA.
Since its inception in 2014 the BNL has gone from strength to strength in 2015, with weekend clashes between the twelve sides now a regular fixture at Wembley Indoor Stadium in Johannesburg.
SRSA’s seeding funding of the tournament, which is valid for a period of three years, is proving to be a good investment in the growth of this popular sport, especially since the BNL games are televised on SuperSport (see the BNL footage here), ensuring it reaches a broad audience of South Africans. As a result of the BNL several other high-profile basketball tournaments have taken place recently, including the Four Nations Tournament, and a tour by the Seychelles national team.
Normally takes place in: May-July
The event is held during the year and details of venues will be posted from time to time on this site.
