SASReCon - SRSA's bi-annual sport science conference
SASReCon is the primary sport science conference in South Africa, and brings together the cream of South African sport science researchers and practitioners to share insights and learn from each other. It endeavours to bridge the gap between science and practice while also acting as a forum for the academic sport science and research community to present and share results of recent projects.
The conference covers all specialisation areas of sport including human movement studies, natural sciences, social sciences, and management studies. Those who will benefit from the conference include academics, researchers, coaches, sport technical personnel, sports teachers, and everyone involved in sport management.
SASReCon is a project of the Directorate of Sport Scientific Support Services of Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA), the national government department responsible for sport, and is held on a bi-annual basis in a different city each time.
Each edition of the event has a unique theme and a number of sub-streams that represent current issues in sport science. In 2008 the theme was 'Mass Participation and a Winning Nation' and the streams were Sport Academies, Talent Identification, 2010 FIFA World Cup, Perspectives on Mass Participation, Health through physical activity, and Implications of the National Sports Plan. The 2010 theme was 'Sport, Recreation and Physical Education, An Essential Triad'.
