13th Annual SA Sport Awards Winners' Celebrated

Minister, Deputy Minister and Director General at the Awards

BLOEMFONTEIN:  Sport and Recreation South Africa, held its annual programme to recognise, honour and reward South African sports men and women who continue to raise the SA flag with pride on sporting fields nationally an internationally.

The 13th Annual SA Sport Awards was hosted by Sport and Recreation SA in partnership, the Provincial department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation as well as the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, broadcast by SABC and in partnership with Supersport

The event kicked off on the evening of 11th of November 2018 at Pacofs in Bloemfontein, starting with a red carpet media engagement from 18h00 and broadcasting of the show live on SABC 1 from 21h00.

The night belonged to Ms. Caster Semenya through and through, who walked away with Sports Star of the Year Award 2018, Sportswoman of the year 2018 award as well as ranking in the highest votes to win People’s Choice Sports Star of the year Award 2018.

Banyana Banyana also finally took their rightful reign as Team of the Year given the phenomenal and impressive sports performance in the year under review - namely 2017 August 01 to 2018 September 30.

A summation of the SA Sport Awards 2018 nominees and in turn the respective winners in each of the 17 category as well as the recipients of the Minister’s Awards plus the Steve Tshwete Lifetime Achievement Awards is attached:

Speaking at the Breakfast of Champions Morning Live interview, on the morning after the awards Minister Tokozile Xasa advanced that: “Last night we recognised excellence in sport, those who have held our SA flag very high, the people who have said to the world, it can be done. I expect in the future to see more women winning in the SA Sport Awards and of course more contribution in participation from our rural communities.”
