Minister of Sport and Recreation SA Ms.Tokozile Xasa, congratulates Ms Saray Khumalo - The first african woman to summit Mount Everest

Tshwane - The Minister of Sport and Recreation SA, Ms. Tokozile Xasa congratulates Ms. Saray Khumalo, the first African woman who conquered Mount Everest on Thursday 16 May 2019.

Affirming the pride of the nation to Ms. Khumalo, Minister Tokozile Xasa highlighted that: “Ms. Khumalo’s unwavering dedication to reach Mount Everest, serves as inspiration to all of us and is an embodiment of the spirit of Womandla which resonates with continuing determination to achieve and be victorious in spite of challenging circumstances.”

Ms.Khumalo, achievement which she dedicated to “the ordinary women, girls and daughters of the African soil who dare to dream”,  comes at a time when the Ministry of Sport and Recreation is underway with  a national work shop road show aimed at engaging sporting communities on issues hampering women and sport through the Women and Sport Policy workshops. The next Women and Sport Policy workshop which will discuss issues affecting women in sport as well as give input to the Women in Sport draft policy will take place on 17 May 2019 at Hilton Hotel in Sandton, Gauteng from 08h00 to 3h30.

Ms. Saray Khumalo has proven that indeed - the dream of any African child is valid and it is possible to achieve.
