National Recreation Day & Big Walk Activities

NATIONAL RECREATION DAY & BIG WALK ACTIVITIES
The Department of Sport and Recreation South Africa in partnership with Gauteng Provincial Department of Sport, Arts and Recreation will this Friday (4th October 2019) host the National Recreation Day at the Union Building Grounds with event commencing at 08H00 ending at Midday.
The Department has further arranged a public view area at the venue to enable all who will be in attendance at the event to watch the 2019 Japan Rugby World Cup Match between Springboks and Italy with the match commencing at 11H45.
The National Recreation Day is an event declared by Cabinet back in 2014 granting every South African an opportunity to get involved in active recreational activities. In line with the cabinet decision, the Department of Sport and Recreation South Africa then started the IChoose2BActive campaign which is a call to action for all South Africans to engage in physical activity. The campaign seeks to change the behavior of all South Africans and attitude towards healthy living. NRD activities will also include Kiddies Corner, Face Painting, Power Box, Combat, Rumba to name a few. Note that over 13 000 people have registered for the event therefore reaching the required threshold of the number of participants.
In line with TAFISA's declaration of October being the month of getting physically active, this Sunday (6th October 2019) the Department of Sport and Recreation South Africa will also be hosting the Big Walk which falls under the IChoose2BActive campaigns. The event is scheduled to take place at Fountains Valley Resort starting at Fleur Primary School / Fleur Park at 07H00. Over 33 000 participants are expected to participate in the Big Walk which encompasses 5, 10 and 15KM walks.
All those who have successfully registered for both the Big Walk and National Recreation Day are urged to collect their participation packs inclusive of the event T-Shirts and numbers at Tshwane Events Centre, Hall K from Wednesday (02 October). For collections participants will be required to produce their ID documents for confirmation.
